I’m thankful to live in a country where we have the freedom to make choices. Choices about our lifestyle, our parenting, our education, our health and most importantly, our faith.
As a community, we’re readily facing new challenges that test our faith and our freedoms. As a cancer patient especially, it can be hard to feel like your voice is heard amidst a sea of opinions and ever-changing information. This Independence Day, we at HealingStrong want to remind you that you always have the freedom to choose. Freedom to choose faith over doubt, joy over sorrow, grace over judgement, peace over anxiety, and hope over fear. God’s Word promises us that, “Who the Son sets free, he is free indeed” (John 8:36). This verse is interwoven into a song I love which lyrics sing, “Who the Son sets free, he is free indeed and there are no chains that can hinder me, Hallelujah!”
I pray that as a community we really believe this. That when Christ came down from heaven and sacrificed Himself on the cross and bore all our shame, through this action of love and mercy we are FREE. I pray we also do not take for granted, even through challenging times as a country, that we live in a place where freedom is the foundation and its worth continuing to fight for.
We’ve included links to a few of our Bible studies down below. I encourage you to pick one and begin reading and as you do, ask the Lord to reveal areas where freedom is lacking.
Romans 8:1-6 — “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.“
Happy Freedom Day!
