JOIN HEALINGSTRONG ON THIS SPECIAL GIVING TUESDAY WITH A MATCHING DONATION IN MEMORY OF EMILIO ROBLES, PURPLE HEART RECIPIENT AND WAR VETERAN

We are so excited to share this wonderful gift. One of our amazing HealingStrong members is offering a dollar for dollar match up to $5,000 in memory of her father Emilio Robles, who died in February. Carol Robles Roman found great peace during his struggle with bladder cancer while she herself underwent treatment for 9/11 related stage iv lung cancer. Carol’s active participation with the HealingStrong community and its many resources like Around the Word in 80 Days, greatly fortified her relationship with the Lord and her health. She credits her renewed healing with the peace she now enjoys as part of this spiritual healing community.

Emilio Robles

March 16, 1933 - February 13, 2021

On February 13, 2021, Emilio Robles, called Pop by his children and Millo by his friends, died of cancer with dignity and grace at his home in Howard Beach. He was cared for by his daughters with at-home hospice, with Frenchie taking the lead.

What a life he lived! Millo was the only son of six born to Emiliano Robles and Dominga Hernández of Naranjito, Puerto Rico. It was there where Millo played baseball, fished, and met his childhood sweetheart and wife of 56 years, Inés.

He joined the U.S. Marines at age 17, served in the Korean conflict at age 19 and was awarded a Purple Heart Medal after being wounded in combat. After the war, newlyweds Millo and Inés settled in Queens, New York where they raised their family of six children: Daniel, Edna, Carol, Sally, Melisa, and Frances. For decades, Emilio and Inés owned and operated Los Robles Travel Service, working six days a week to support their family.

Another side of Millo that many folks don’t know: in the 1960s, he volunteered as a civic leader and community advocate alongside Mom. In 1963, he participated in the famous “March on Washington” with Dr. Martin Luther King, witnessing the historic “I Have a Dream” speech in person. In the early ’70s, he was featured in a NBC special about revitalizing East New York. With his name in the blurb, we read the TV Guide listing in awe.

After Millo and Ines retired and sold their beloved travel agency, Ines became very sick. Millo spent the next decade as her dedicated caretaker, until her death in 2012. According to sources, in his later years he was quite the braggart about his children and grandchildren. He felt he had left a legacy.
